Day 3

Lindsey DenboComment

What started off as a relaxing day quickly became chaotic. We slept until 6am and then said goodbye to Matt. Bye Matt! We then spent the morning with the lovely Sandra.

Around 11am we headed over to Koldinghus, a castle in Kolding.

This room was pretty cool. The castle has seen its fair share of attacks and fires. This area was so damaged they decided to build around it instead of fixing it. It's called the Room of Ruins. It's hard to tell, but this room is huge. Huge!

After the castle we had lunch and then we made a mad dash to the train station. Almost missed the train.

We had a brief lay-over in Hamburg.

We then made another mad dash to the train station. We really need to plan better. Lol. Once we got there, it was insane. People everywhere.

Once we finally got into bed. We got the top bunk. Yay.

Day 3 - A Summary of Sorts

Brad Denbo2 Comments

Koldinghus Castle, Delicious sandwiches, a train to Hamburg, a great restaurant with great beer, a 900 year old castle, a late sleeper train, and a nearly dead phone with no outlets in sight. Will most details and more pictures tomorrow. Bed time.

Day 2

We woke up early. Early. People go to bed late and wake up early here. How???

We ate a traditional Danish breakfast of bread and jam.

Yummy bread.

Day 2 - The Island of Rømø

Brad DenboComment

It's very easy to wake up when the sun rises at 4:40. We had a traditional Danish breakfast and headed out to the island of Rømø for the beach, kite flying, and lunch.  The water was not as cold as I was expecting. The Pacific in California is still colder than the Atlantic is in Northern Europe. Flying kites was great on the beach. Hard to stay on the ground with such strong winds, though. Then, we had a traditional fish-based lunch. An hour drive back to Kolding.

We drove and walked into the Atlantic. Easy to do at such a low tide.

Day 1 - Flight, Copenhagen, Kolding

Brad DenboComment

Long day. Little sleep on the plane. But, on the bright side, buying tickets for the train was a breeze at the kiosk, our luggage wasn't lost, and we made a great friend on our way out to Kolding who was happy to tell us all about Denmark.  In Kolding, our first meal was Chinese food, where they didn't accept MasterCard. I had to pay in Euros, and that got expensive.  Had my first beer at a local Sports bar, then spent the rest of the evening with Sandra. Matt will be home later tonight, but right now, it's bedtime.

Just boarded our first train. Leaving Copenhagen Airport.

Day 1

Drive to LAX: Thank you mom and dad Denbo!!!

Flight: We landed in Copenhagen after a slight delay and a 10.5 hour flight. Note: this was my first time sleeping while sitting straight up and the flight was freezing. It's also cool to note that we flew over Greenland and Iceland.

Train to Copenhagen H: Our first attempt at figuring out public transportation in a foreign land wasn't that bad...I can say we made the train. 20 minutes later...

Train to Kolding: Still not that bad, but it was stereotypical. FYI: you will need to run if your train car is on the opposite end of the station. We made it, but barely. We were also the only car with a working bathroom...thank everything that is holy. This train lasted about 2.5 hours and we got to meet Lars/Lennie Ann, a wonderful person who definitely made the time fly by.

Brad and I arrived in kolding and walked .8 miles to Matt and Sandra's apartment. After setting everything down we realized we were (I was) starving.

We walked to dinner at the Peking Grill where I was told they had no veggies. Lol. Thus began what is sure to be an adventure in making sure Lindsey eats. The language barrier also proved challenging. After using another customer as an interpreter, we finally settled on some chow mein for me. Brad had duck. Everything settled? Let's pay! Wait...it's not accepting our card? And so we overpaid in Euros.

We needed to make sure our card would work elsewhere, so we went over to Larsen's pub and sports bar. It worked and Brad was much happier with beer in his tummy.

Mind you...it's 9:20pm. It's still light out. Weird.

We got back to the apartment where I took a heavenly shower.

Sleep awaits. Good night.
